What is Vedic Astrology?
Vedic astrology, known as Jyotish Shastra in Sanskrit, is one of the oldest systems of astrology in the world. Dating back over 5,000 years to the Vedic period of ancient India, it is considered one of the six auxiliary disciplines of the Vedas.
The word Jyotish comes from the Sanskrit root "jyoti", meaning "light" — it illuminates the path of destiny and helps us understand the karmic patterns in our lives.

Understanding Your Moon Sign
In Vedic astrology, your Moon sign (Rashi) is more important than your Sun sign. The Moon represents your mind, emotions, and how you perceive the world. It changes signs approximately every 2.25 days, making it a much more precise indicator of your personality than the Sun sign.
The 12 Houses and 9 Planets
Every Vedic birth chart contains 12 houses, each governing a different area of life:
- House 1 — Self, body, personality
- House 2 — Wealth, family, speech
- House 3 — Courage, communication, siblings
- House 4 — Mother, home, happiness
- House 5 — Intelligence, children, creativity
- House 6 — Enemies, debts, health
- House 7 — Marriage, business partnerships
- House 8 — Longevity, obstacles, transformation
- House 9 — Fortune, father, spirituality
- House 10 — Career, reputation, authority
- House 11 — Gains, ambitions, friends
- House 12 — Losses, foreign travel, liberation
Jyotish is not about fatalistic predictions. It's a tool for self-awareness — helping you understand your strengths and work on your weaknesses.
